Do you remember the Indiana Jones films of the 1980s? Harrison Ford played a swashbuckling archaeologist who travelled the world in search of mysterious treasures.

Now, 19 years later, the man with the hat and the whip and makes a return to the silver screen.

In this programme presented by Jo Hunter and Yang Li, we hear from Harrison Ford himself and director Steven Spielberg with their thoughts on the new film.

Jo: So let's see if you can guess what exciting topic we're covering on
BBC Learning English today Li.
Li: 好吧，不过 Jo 你要先给我一点点提示？
Jo: Well he's an action hero…
Li: 演动作片的大腕儿影星?
Jo: …who is an archaeologist…
Li: 还是一名考古学家?
Jo: And there were three films made about him in the 1980s.
Li: 啊，等等，Jo, 我猜出来了。你是说印地安那·琼斯，对不对?
Jo: Yes Li – you got it. Now today's programme is all about the action
hero Indiana Jones.
Li: Now isn't Indiana Jones quite an old film Jo? Why are we talking
about it today?
Jo: Yes the first Indiana Jones films came out in the 1980s but after a
break of 19 years there is a new film coming out. And everyone is
talking about it.
Li: 人们对这部新片是不是感到很兴奋呢？ 下面会听到一些英国人的反映。不过为
了帮助理解，我们先来预习几个词语：
Jo: It's a shame.
Li: 很遗憾。
Jo: Suspense.
Li: 悬念。
Jo: Premiere.
Li: 首映式。
Jo: To be hooked.
Li: 被迷住了。

I think it's a shame in a way that they're bringing it back because sometimes
when you bring things back you destroy what was originally a very good idea.
I like the suspense the fear and the rapid action movie type of film that is was.
I remember being allowed to stay up late to watch the television premiere of
Raiders of the Lost Ark - the first film – and I was instantly hooked. But yeah just
been waiting, waiting and waiting – and well I just can't wait to see it.
I can take it or leave it.
Jo: So the first person there thinks it might be bad to bring the idea
back as it might not be as good – but she likes the action and the
suspense.
Li: 第二位讲话者喜欢印地安那·琼斯这套系列影片。他记得第一部影片Raiders
of the Lost Ark 在电视上首次播出时，他一下子就被迷住了。
Jo: He said he just can't wait to see it. But the last person there says
she can take it or leave it.
Li: I can take it or leave it – 这句话的意思是无所谓，看不看都行!
Jo: Today on BBC Learning English we're talking about Indiana Jones
and the new film that is coming out – 19 years after the last one!
Li: BBC 采访了这部影片的导演，斯皮尔伯格。导演就是：
Jo: Director. He was asked if he thought it was a bit of a gamble to
bring the famous character back for another film.
Li: 赌博 gamble.

I've never thought of it as a gamble although to be fair every movie I've ever
made is a gamble. But this was something that the public asked me and Harrison
and George – all the cast members who were in the movie were always asked –
when's Indiana Jones coming back?
Jo: So Steven has never thought of it as a gamble.
Li: 不过，他说，公众…
Jo: He says the public asked him and Harrison Ford and George Lucas,
who is a film director and producer working on the Indiana films…
Li: A producer 制片人。Cast members 演出班子。
Jo: The cast members who were in the movie were always asked –
when is Indiana Jones coming back?
Li: 现在续集已出，人们不免谈论起哈里森·福德的年龄，65 岁主演动作片，这
会不会是个问题呢？Is it relevant?

Not relevant to me. I do what's required in the character. I don't think it would
have been wise to pretend that time had stood still so I was very pleased that we
made the decision to move forward in time and revisit a later period in history
which is also very interesting.
Jo: Harrison said it isn't relevant to him.
Li: 他只管按角色character 的要求去拍戏，这是演员的本职。
Jo: He doesn't think it would have been wise to pretend that time had
stood still.
Li: Wise 聪明。To pretend 装作怎么样。To pretend that time had
stood still 装作时间停滞不前。
Jo: He was pleased they made the decision to revisit – to visit again –
a later period in history.
Li: 哈里森很高兴这部新片从最初的1930 年代的时间背景向前发展了，推进到
50 年代冷战时期的这位考古学家所经历的一系列惊险故事。
