Bloke 男人
Real English
Presenter/producer: Jo Reffin
Jo: This is Real English from BBC Learning English. I’m Jo.
Jean: And I’m Jean.
Jo: Today we’re going to look at words and phrases that have recently become part of the English language.
Jean: 在我们的Real English节目中,我们将学到一些现代英国英语的新词汇和新说法。
Jo: Today’s new word is ‘bloke’ – B.L.O.K.E. - bloke.
Jean: Bloke. Could you explain what that means?
Jo: Well, maybe you know the word ‘guy’.
Jean: Yes, guy 就是男人的意思。
Jo: Yes. Well, bloke is another informal word meaning man.
Jean: So bloke 就是英式英语里男人的非正式称呼。So Jo, could you give us an example of how we use it?
Jo: Of course. Imagine we were in a restaurant, and I saw someone I knew. I might say to you ‘The bloke over there is my friend from work’.
Jean: I see.

A: I met your brother the other night. We had a really good time.
B: Yes, he’s a really nice bloke, isn’t he?
A: Excuse me, where are the toilets?
B: I’m not sure. Ask that bloke standing by the door – I think he works here.
Jean: So, are most of your friends blokes, Jo?
Jo: I don’t know. I haven’t really thought about it…let’s see. No, I think it’s about half and half, actually.
Jean: And what sort of blokes do you like?
Jo: That’s a very personal question! But a lot of my friends are blokes, anyway. I also work with a lot of blokes, rather than women.
Jean: Me too. Do you prefer it that way?
Jo: It doesn’t make a difference for me, really. Blokes, women, I don’t mind who I work with.
Jean: 好啦,让我们再来回顾一下吧 – bloke –就是英式英语里男人的非正式称呼 – bloke.
Jo: Anyway, it’s time to go. You’ve been listening to Real English from BBC Learning English. Join us again soon for more up-to-the-minute Real English. Bye.
Jean: See you next time.

As an English learner, I think this blog can serve an English encyclopedia if each branch can be enriched. Excellent! Thanks for the hardwork!
